The Curriculum
The programme is delivered in Bengali and English. The Bangladesh Government Curriculum is followed with a particular focus on building literacy skills in both languages. This unique school has built its curriculum around the needs of the students and the community.
Engaging teaching and learning techniques are used to inspire students to attend and to develop a love of learning. Education of the child, socially, emotionally, and academically is emphasized in a balanced approach to teaching and learning.
Administration
The SCSF Board, composed of the key founding sponsors, school principal and teachers, administers the Solmaid Community School (SCS) with the support of a consultative panel of international teachers.
Unlike many other similar schools in Dhaka, this school is essentially run by teachers of Bangladesh, for children of Bangladesh and with their own locally developed Bangladeshi curriculum.
Mahatma Gandhi described this model of education provision as, “the beautiful tree’.
It is this philosophy of community education, whereby the community accepts responsibility for educating itself that has inspired this project.
